"Applying for external awards can be a challenge. There is a lot of information gathering, writing, and reference requests. It can be a daunting task. There is always the chance that you will not be selected, but if you do not apply there is a 100% chance you will not be selected. University is expensive. Continuing to pay your rent, phone bill, internet and other bills while simultaneously paying school related costs is a huge barrier for most of us. I am glad that I put the effort into applying not only for VIU's scholarship, award and bursary profile, but also to external awards. I was granted one of these awards and it will make a huge difference in how I am able to cope with the financial stress that comes with attending university. It is always worth applying. By applying you are giving yourself a shot at being accepted."
